Medication – it is important that the storage requirements of medication used at home are discussed with the treating doctor or pharmacist. This is because some medications need to be stored away from the light or cannot be stored in medication dispensers. Some medication storage systems can support independence if used with the support of a doctor or pharmacist for example:
- A Blister Pack system (e.g. "Webster Pack") labelled with each day of the week is filled by the local pharmacist who will take the doctor’s prescription and fill the pack. These blister storage packs are available from a number of different suppliers and are available for those with low vision and in a number of different community languages.
- Electronic Medication Reminder Pill Boxes are programmable to alert the user as to when their medication is due. These boxes come with various functions, some are small enough to carry in the pocket or purse of the user and store the medication within the reminder device.
A Talking Label is a reusable magnetic cap that is the size of a tin can. It is able to record a 10 second voice message that identifies the contents of the container and can also be attached by Velcro to larger containers
'Doorganiser' - this canvas wallet is designed to hang from a door handle. It has open pockets and a clip to hold easily misplaced items such as glasses, keys, mobile phones or envelopes.
A Lockable Cabinet that can be mounted on the wall or placed inside a cupboard out of view, is useful for storing household cleaning products that may be dangerous.
