Computer- a computer can be set up with a simplified logging in process. Setting up a familiar log on icon, such as a name or a photo, can simplify the process of logging on and moving to a screen where the options and internet sites are relevant to the person’s interests. The size of the text and the number of sites that can be visited can be modified.
Communication - Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) works from the computer. This system allows the person using the computer to talk to family or friends around the world using the computer and web camera. There are many providers who supply the software and services that support this activity. The software can usually be downloaded free of charge.
Automated Home System - these systems use sensor technology to turn lights on and off and adjust the level of lighting. Sensors are placed in rooms throughout the home to measure changes in light levels and adjust these levels as required to a pre-programmed level that has been set by the home owner or carer. These systems also can be programmed to operate home entertainment systems such as the TV, DVD player or radio and music programs. There is often some flexibility in the design of the system which allows the customer to identify what their interests are, allowing for personalization.
