Computer reminders can be programmed into the calendar of both Mac and Windows operating systems on personal computers. If you use your computer every day this can be a useful way of receiving regular prompts and reminders as to when bills are due. Another alternative may be for a carer to program in the days or email you reminders.

Automated Payments - there are a number of automated payment systems available which can be helpful and remove the stress that can be associated with remembering to pay bills.

Direct debit or automatic payment systems can be set up so the amount of your bill is deducted from your cheque, savings account, or credit card, on the due date of the bill. Rates, utilities, rent and memberships can all be deducted from your bank account on a regular basis.

A fixed payment system is where the same amount is paid each fortnight or month onto your bill before your bill is due. This service may not be available with all companies and organisations.

It is worthwhile making an appointment with the bank to discuss automated bill paying systems. If there are concerns regarding safe financial management, these should be discussed with the person with dementia and/or their bank manager.
