Many eating and drinking utensils are available that can support both independence and dignity. However it is important to consider if they will represent a familiar item to the person who will be using them.

Shallow Depth Fridge – makes it easier to see and reach foods in the refrigerator, reducing incidences of food being hidden out of sight and spoiling.

Knork - this weighted fork has been designed specifically to cut food without cutting the inside of the person’s mouth.

Plates with lips, or rims that prevent spillage.

Drinking Devices

  • Flexible drinking straws, or straws that have a small valve, (‘Pat Saunders one-way straw’) allow the liquid to flow only one way; and
